Perfect Purple Slouchy Hat - Free Pattern

Hey there hookers! ;)

It's almost Thanksgiving! And that means it's time for me to start thinking about Christmas gifts for family and friends, and how I can get them all done in time! I came up with this quick and easy pattern for an open stitch slouchy hat, and I know a handful of people on my gift list that would love one (or more!).

The hat is made using bulky weight yarn, so although it has an open look, it's actually very warm on your head. It could also be worn indoors for quick trips in and out of stores!

I hope you enjoy this free pattern, and share it with your friends!
As always, if you have any questions or comments, leave them below! I love hearing from my readers :)

Slightly Slouchy Beanie - Free Crochet Pattern by The Hippy Hooker!

Hello Hookers!!

I realize it's been a long time since sharing anything, and I'm so sorry for that! This year has been tough on me to say the least, but it's finally crochet season again and that means my hook is on the move constantly!

I've never really been into making a lot of hats. If you've noticed, most of my patterns are bags, gloves, ear warmers, and cozies. I've been instantly drawn to those things from the start, and I've always had a difficult time making hats.

I'm glad to say I've moved way past my 'hat hating' phase, and have come up with some great simple free patterns for you all!! I have long hair now, and I love the way it looks when I have an adorable beanie to show off.

So here it is, a super simple, slightly slouchy crocheted beanie. I hope you enjoy! As always, any questions or comments can be left if you need any help or enjoyed the pattern so much you'd like to see more like it!

7 Free Crochet Patterns for Summer!

It's been a very busy life for me lately, and thats left little time for this blog, but I really hope to change that soon. I've been crocheting when I can, but it's not nearly as much as I want to unfortunately :(

I've been dealing with a LOT of stress the past few months, and so I've decided to take a step back and remind myself of why I began crocheting in the first place, to DE STRESS!

These next few patterns are from some amazing crochet designers and I hope to make all of these in the next few months. I just need a little push, and thought I would give you all some inspiration as well!

What hippy wouldn't love this granny square? The color combinations are endless! I'd love to see a bag or blanket made out of these. Get the free pattern by Petals to Picots HERE.

Crochet in the summer can be limited, but it doesn't have to be with this super adorable baby flip flop pattern!! Multiple sizes, and endless color combinations make these perfect for little girls or boys! Whistle & Ivy nailed it with this free pattern. Grab it here!

This chevron market bag is perfect for the beach, a trip to the farmers market, or just an every day carry all. Use cotton yarn for no stretching and enjoy all the colorful options you could use to make this adorable and useful bag! Get the free pattern by Cre8tion Crochet here!

These baby sandals by String with Style are SO adorable! You can whip these up in a snap and they can make any outfit pop with color. Get the free pattern here!

Here's another barefoot sandal pattern, this time for the ladies!! These Granny Gladiator Barefoot Sandals are so cool! You could even just stop them at the ankle and make them regular barefoot sandals. I'm a little obsessed with both granny's and barefoot sandals, so I think I'll be making these ASAP. The free pattern is available at Simply Collectible's blog here

I'm a bag fanatic, and Moogly never disappoints when it comes to making awesome and colorful bags. This Manchester Handbag and matching Sunglasses Case are perfect for any road trip or even a trip to the store! Enjoy the free pattern here!

And last but not least, I've been dying to decorate my car with my awesome crochet skills, and now I finally can! Thanks to Corina from Stitch11, she created this awesome free steering wheel cover pattern! I can't wait to make one myself. Free pattern here, with a link to a console cover as well!

I hope you enjoy all of these awesome patterns! Let me know which ones you liked best. I really look forward to making everything on this list, and can't wait to post pictures when I do!

Happy Hooking!!

Toddler Weights and Spring Hats!

Hello again!!

I know, I know, I've been MIA for a very long time. I can assure you though it hasn't been by choice. I would MUCH rather be sitting and crocheting and blogging than running around doing what I've been doing the past few months. BUT that's life, and you've gotta learn to roll with the punches, right?!

Now that I'm into a new routine, I'm going to start making some more time for crochet and this blog. I hope you guys can bear with me!

I have had time to do a couple small projects over the past week, and I'll share them with you right now, along with the free patterns that you can use to make your own! It's not much, but its a small start to trying to build up my blog again. :)

I made this Toddler Weight Set (free pattern by Stitch 11 HERE) for Jude a few weeks ago, since he's been really into copying me while I exercise. Now he has his own little weights to play with!

This beanie was made using the Emery Beanie FREE pattern by The Tiny Plum on Craftsy

It's not much, but that's what's been on my hook over the past week.. What about you?!

Braided Infinity Scarf - Pattern By Rookie Crafter

I stumbled across a picture of this braided infinity scarf on Pinterest (check out my crochet pattern board here!), and I was immediately intrigued by the idea. I couldn't wait to get my hook going and make one myself!

This is such a simple and easy design, as long as you can chain, double crochet, and braid, you're good! I made two scarves and am working on a third now. It's a great easy project to have on hand when you don't feel like focusing on a complicated pattern or stitch count.

I used 1 skein of Red Heart Soft yarn and an I hook. You can find the instructions on how to make your scarf at Rookie Crafters blog here.

Let me know what you think, and what colors you're going to make yours in!

Happy Hookin' (:

WIP Wednesday: St. Patrick's Day Inspiration!

It's that time of year again. Spring is right around the corner, and everyone is on Pinterest pinning their ideas for spring cleaning and gardening. I actually opened my windows the other day!

Here's what I have in progress this week. I've been focusing a lot on my blog lately (creating some awesome new content for you in the future!), so I only have one wip to share today. The pattern is by The Hook Hound on Etsy. It's a really easy to follow pattern with great results!

I was inspired by this upcoming holiday to make this bold green and tan tote bag! I hope to have it finished by tomorrow but for the sake of this post, here it is!

The handles will be all tan. Or would you rather it be green in the middle and lined with tan? Leave a comment!

Rasta Slouchy Beanie - Free Crochet Pattern

Happy Sunday everybody! I hope you are having a great weekend. I have a great slouch hat pattern to share with you today, and I'm so excited about it! This hat is so me. The colors, the stitch, the way it fits, I just love it. I love it so much I wrote down the pattern to share with you!

This awesome yarn had previously been used for something else, but I ended up not liking it and putting it down for another day. Two years later... it finally caught my eye on my 'wall of yarn' and I decided to make something fun and funky!

Red Heart Rocks!

As a blogger, I've learned that I could have a chance to try and review products for other companies for free. It just takes putting yourself out there and being confident with what you do. (which I'm working on) When I found out I might be able to get some free products from Red Heart (I already use their Red Heart Soft and Red Heart Super Saver a lot), I jumped on it!

A week after sending them an email about my blog, I got back a response. 2 days later I was jumping up and down as my package arrived in the mail. There's nothing I love more than a good surprise, especially when it comes to yarn!

Here's what was in the box:

St Patty's Day Free Crochet Pattern Roundup!

St. Patty's day is right around the corner! To be honest, I'm not Irish, so we don't celebrate a huge amount for St. Patricks day, but that doesn't stop me from having a little bit of fun with the luck of the Irish!

Pattern Review: Granny Ripple Bag

When I found this pattern on Pinterest I was instantly attracted. Partly because I have an unhealthy obsession with large bags, and because I have an equally unhealthy obsession with granny squares. The colors the designer chose instantly drew me in, but it was the simplicity and easiness of the pattern that I really fell in love with.

Recent Finished Projects #3

Hey guys! These past 2 weeks have flown by for me. I've been so busy it's been hard for me to find time to crochet and blog! Sorry about that. You can thank my 5 month old who only sleeps when he feels like it, and my 2 year old who only naps once in a blue moon! I'm exhausted to say the least.

It's taken me a little longer, but I do have a bunch of new crochet projects to share with you! I've been hooking whenever I can to try and save my sanity.
I also have a lot going on behind the scenes here at The Hippy Hooker. I've been working on a lot of new things, so it may seem like I'm missing for a while, but I'm working harder than ever to make this site what I want it to be! You can expect lots of new free patterns, especially for beginners, and I'm thinking about branching out into other areas as well such as toddler activities (I love to try new things I find on Pinterest!), recipes, weekly free pattern reviews, and way more! I hope you stick around, and don't forget to like me on facebook, follow me on pinterest, and sign up for the newsletter in the sidebar!

So back to the point of this post...

Here's what I've been working on:

Simple Stash Buster Fingerless Gloves Free Pattern!

These fingerless gloves were my attempt to use up some of the pretty sock yarn I had lying around. After organizing my yarn room this past week, I discovered so much more than I thought I had! I loved this green and purple yarn, but I wasn't quite sure what to do with it on its own. So I headed over to my "wall of yarn", chose a light cream color, and got to work!

Fingerless gloves are my go-to pattern right now, they're easy and quick to make. With a bigger hook and simple stitches, you can pop on a tv show and have a pair done in no time!

My 2014 Resolutions

Happy New Year All!!

I had a hard time narrowing down my resolutions, which is why I am doing this late. There is just SO much that I want to accomplish this year, not only on this blog, but referring to my bad eating and exercising habits, and probably too lax cleaning schedule, as well.

But when I'm just thinking about this blog and the direction I want to take it in, there is a ton that I want to change! So in an effort to keep to my goals for this year I'm setting it in stone (well.. in a post).

Here are my 2014 Blogging Resolutions

  • To become more familiar with HTML and coding
  • To do a complete redesign of my website
  • Update some old posts with new (better) pictures and text
  • Post at least 1-2x per week
  • Share 2-3 free patterns on my Facebook page a day
  • Get more viewers/followers/fans on Facebook

Hopefully this year will bring big things for this Hippy Hooker.
