Hello my fellow hookers!!
Today I have for you this very simple, sturdy market bag, which is perfect for those spring, summer, and fall trips to the farmers market! I always enjoy picking out fresh, seasonal produce to later make into healthy meals for myself and my family. So why not have a light, breathable bag to carry all my goodies?!
If you know how to single crochet and chain, you can easily make this! But watch out, soon your friends and family will want one too!
Market Bag Pattern
Materials
6 MM (Size J) Hook
2-3 Skeins of Lily Sugar and Creme Cotton Yarn
Notes: After the beginning chain, you will single crochet along both sides of the chain, creating a round. Beginning at row 6, you will work in rounds, without joining. Place a stitch marker in that spot to remember where you started. The handles are worked separately then sewn onto the bag. If you have any
questions please feel free to ask!
Chain 31
Round 1: SC in second chain from hook, and each ch across (30 SC). make 3 SC in the last ch, and continue to SC around the opposite side of the chain. Make 2 SC in last st and sl st to first SC to complete the round.
Round 2: Ch 1, SC in each st around. sl st to first sc.
Round 3: Repeat round 2
Round 4: *Ch 6, skip 2 st, slip stitch into next st.* Repeat around.
Round 5: At the end of round 4, instead of sl st into the next st, you will sl st into the first chain 6 sp. ch 6 and continue to sl st into the next ch 6 space.
Continue doing this until your bag is the length you desire. Keep in mind, as the bag gets filled it will stretch (this is why i use cotton yarn, less stretch).
Finishing round: Ch 1, SC 5 times in each chain space. Slip stitch to beginning chain to complete the round. Repeat once more.
Straps (Make Two)
Chain 5
SC into 2nd chain from hook, and next 3 chains.
Ch 1, turn, SC in same sp as ch and next 3 stitches.
Repeat previous round until your strap is as long as you like (just make sure they're the same length!)
Using a yarn needle, sew the straps onto your bag.
I love my bag and I hope you guys do too!
