I'm back with another awesome free pattern!
Simple, comfortable, and quick to work up were all on my mind when coming up with this hat.
What makes it most unique is the type of yarn I used. Red Heart sent me some samples of yarn to review for them, and I'm so excited to get to play with this reflective yarn! (Check out my review on Red Heart's reflective yarn here)
I was worried that this yarn would be too scratchy for a hat, but the finished product is incredibly soft! It's holding up nicely and even Jude loves to wear it around sometimes :P
The size is easily adjustable, and this hat as is fits small-medium sized heads (think teen/adult). This is my first slouch hat and I'm so proud of it! It's a little out of my comfort zone to be wearing such a bright color, but then I thought.. why not?? I need to come out of my comfort zone ever now and then. So be prepared to see me coming from a mile away!

Free Crochet Pattern By The Hippy Hooker
Materials
I Hook
H Hook
Red Heart Reflective Yarn-Grey
Red Heart Reflective Yarn-Neon Orange
Abbreviations
MC - Magic Circle
ch - Chain
sc - Single Crochet
dc - Double Crochet
sp - Space
st - Stitch
sl st - Slip Stitch
Pattern
Round 1: MC, ch 1, 6 sc in mc
Round 2: Ch 2 (does NOT count as first DC), 2 DC in same sp and in each st around, sl st to first dc to complete round.
Round 3: Ch 2, 1 dc in same st, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st), repeat () around. Sl st to first dc to join.
Round 4: Ch 2, 1 dc in same st, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 2 st), repeat () around.
Round 5: Ch 2, 1 dc in same st, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 3 st), repeat () around.
Round 6: Ch 2, 1 dc in same st, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 4 st), repeat () around.
Round 7: Ch 2, 1 dc in same st and each st after. Sl st to first dc to join.
Round 8-16: Repeat Round 7
Round 17(Using H hook): Ch 1, sc in same st and each st around.
Round 18-22: Repeat Round 17.
Fasten off and weave in your ends.

What an awesome hat!!! I want to make on in New Orleans Saints football colors for my first one! I need to order some of this yarn online as I have never seen it in a store yet.

What a great pattern! If you're not using the reflective yarn, would a regular worsted weight be an okay substitute?
ReplyDeleteThank you! (: If you don't have the reflective yarn, I suggest using something a little bulkier than a worsted weight. Not super bulky, but the reflective yarn is a little thicker than your regular worsted weight.
DeleteHi! This is a striking pattern! However, you don't really mention when you change from the main color to the next color, nor do you mention whether you tie off each round or just carry the yarn. Would you please explain?
